Holiday Tablescaping + Williams-Sonoma

Gotta say... it was really cool that Williams-Sonoma wanted us in their shop to pair some 1209 designs with their store's holiday collections. We were thrilled to come up with some fresh tablescape ideas for their shoppers while still staying true to our style. Williams-Sonoma always carries such great pieces for the kitchen and dining-room, so it was a small challenge figuring out what we wanted to use. But once we did, it all came together just how we pictured!

Creating intimate settings for our clients is something that we truly love (and appreciate) doing. The dinner table is a special place. It's where stories are shared, where good food is enjoyed and where memories are made. Growing up, quality time around the dinner table with friends and family was something our families valued, which is why I think it's something we still value today.

The Stewart Tartan Table:

Sherry and I celebrate Christmas, so we wanted to create a festive table using traditional holiday colors. Christmas only comes once a year, so we like to make the most of it! We chose to use items from Williams-Sonoma's Stewart Tartan Collection. To add some contrast to the design we used the white plaid table linens and paired with the red plaid dinner plates.  Our awesome friend Lauren from Lately Press made name-tags that went perfectly with our set-up! You will also see that there are two large pieces of driftwood on the table we picked up in Sedona (sometimes we like to forage for things) that we wrapped tiny lights around to give an element of twinkle! You can find these inexpensive lights at Marshall's or Tuesday Morning, but we have seen them at several other stores too. We used magnolia leaves, red ranunculus, white wax flowers and mums, but then also added a touch of burgundy with the dahlias. Because there is a lot going on, we felt that the glassware needed to have a simple design, so the Estate Collection was the way to go. This is definitely a table we could cozy up to!

The NYE Contempo Table:

This table setting is a more modern + elegant design that's fitting for a New Years Eve dinner. After all of the red, green, and plaid we decided we needed a sleek and stylish look using a non-traditional color palette for this design. For our arrangements, we opted to use purple eucalyptus instead of greens, and then put in a pop of fuchsia with the dahlias. The arrangements are sitting in white mid-century modern inspired vases. You can find some great vase options out there instead of settling for the same old clear vases. World Market, Marshall's and West Elm have some great options depending on your price point. Next, we added a little sparkle and shine by using the silver and white Pine Cone Collection for the table runner and napkins. We wanted to keep the flatware simple since we had our eyes on the stunning Dorset Crystal Collection for the glassware. We added a few of Lauren's watercolor name-tags, along with our silver votives to finish off the look. Now we're ready to ring in the New Year!

Marsala-inspired autumn wedding for Andrea + Robbie

Married October 22, 2016

Wow! What a month... October really kicked our butts (in a good way). Now that we finally have time to breathe, we wanted to start sharing the weddings we were so lucky to be a part of. Andrea and Robbie's wedding was our last wedding of October, and we really couldn't have asked of a better way to cap the month. The couple was inspired by deep, bold colors. Much of their inspiration board consisted of florals and items within a marsala palette, along with pops of gold and deep purples. Designing the floral arrangements and bridal party accessories for this wedding was a treat. We felt that Andrea and Robbie's taste aligned perfectly with our style. In the end, we achieved a rich and elegant vibe that was fitting for the fall season. There is no better feeling than to see months and months of work finally come together! And a big thank you to all who were involved!!

Happy 1 Year Anniversary!

We can't believe a full 365 days have passed since we first launched 1209 creative. Bananas!! We're seriously loving every second of it. Sherry and I are gearing up for our fall weddings after having a successful first summer season! Keep an eye out for some cool stuff we have coming up. We're going to go have ourselves a celebratory cocktail (or three). Thanks to all for the love and high-fives! And again, congrats to our summertime newlyweds!

XOXO.

Pink State of Mind

If you've ever been into the psychology of color, then you know that color has a powerful influence over people. Color has the ability to alter human behavior, effect our emotions and can carry specific meanings (which differ from person to person). Each color has its own impact and meaning. Color psychology and symbolism dates back to the ancient Egyptian era and to this day used in marketing, branding and design for a reason.

Color psychology and symbolism became more of an interest to me after getting into floral arranging. Many of our clients don't specify color preferences when they order through us, so we are given free range and creative freedom when picking out what we want to use for our arrangements. I've noticed that our flower choices are influenced by our moods, although it's usually subconscious. There's been days where Sherry will go for a mix of vibrant purples... another day maybe I'll go pick out warm tones of orange. And then there are days where we go pick out flowers together, so there's definitely a mix of moods and personality going on! I've been thinking about keeping some sort of mood diary to pair with each arrangement we make. It would be cool to compare.

"Often considered a feminine energy because of its soft and gentle nature, pink really benefits both males and females as its source for balancing these energies, either between two people or balancing the yin/yang energy within ourselves. It allows for our more tender, generous and caring qualities to emerge, equalizing those energies which tend to skew in one direction or another. Pink can be a great de-stressor. Its energy helps us to unwind, trust and begin to relax. It helps us to accept the things we cannot change and the ability to know the difference. It is a great color for treating complacency. It helps us to accept where we are in our life right now, with enough understanding as to how we make our next move. Pink soothes the heart energy and allows us to love, embrace and acknowledge the love for others as well as the love we need for ourselves."

When flower arranging, I've noticed that I really enjoy being in a pink state of mind. Probably for many of the reasons having to do with the paragraph above. The world is a very stressful place, whether dealing with big stresses or small annoyances, so it makes a lot of sense why we might have a strong connection to pink! Some of my favorite flower arrangements that Sherry and/or myself have made have consisted of beautiful arrays of pink. I've always been a lover of black and white, and I find it funny that it took flowers to make me realize that I F*%K!NG LOVE PINK!!

Wendi + Rebecca :: Love, Laughs & Sunflowers

We were lucky to meet so many new people last month at The Melrose Street Fair. It was there where we got to meet Wendi and Rebecca. They loved our paper-bag minis that we were selling at our booth, so they asked if we could recreate them for their April wedding... and of course we said, "Hell yes we can!" These two are very cool, hard-working women, so it made us so happy to be a part of a day where everyone was getting together to relax and celebrate Wendi and Rebecca's love for one another; no work, no stress... just love, laughs and sunflowers!
